#GenderIDTalks, ALF Marathon for Dialogue in EuroMed: 4 online panels to explore the topic of gender stereotypes

In partnership with Association la Voix de l’Enfant Rural -AVER / صوت الطفل الريفي and ANKA Youth Association, GEYC coordinates #GenderIDTalks, a series of 4 online panels, in the frame of the Anna Lindh Foundation Virtual Marathon for Dialogue in EuroMed.
#GenderIDTalks aims to promote gender equality, in the sense of raising awareness on the topic of Women and gender stereotypes in a cross-cultural and cross-sectorial way, by connecting it to other key issues (SDGs and ICD, entrepreneurship, media and advertising, youth and digital) and empowering people towards a meaningful civic, economic, social, and cultural participation. The panels will give them a voice and bring youth together with stakeholders from Europe and the EuroMed region, to exchange experiences and ideas as an important asset for solidarity and future development, to find the roots of and break down the gender stereotypes and intercultural dialogue. #GenderIDTalks will thus increase the understanding of this topic, by exploring it through multiple angles:

  • Panel 1 – Sustainable Development Goals and Intercultural Dialogue, 1st of June 2021, 18:00 CET, will focus on the importance of addressing women and gender stereotypes issues in order to achieve the SDGs and their target, as well as the relevance of Intercultural Dialogue to break down those stereotypes.
  • Panel 2 – Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship, 8th of June 2021, 18:00 CET, will be an opportunity to share the challenges & success stories of women in the business sector, the effects of COVID-19, and how to break down gender stereotypes when it comes to this sector.
  • Panel 3 – Media & Advertising, 15th of June 2021, 18:00 CET, will explore the challenges and opportunities of addressing gender stereotypes when it comes to media and advertising industries, and how these narratives influence our perception of the other genders.
  • Panel 4 – Youth and Digital, 22nd of June 2021, 18:00 CET, will focus on the importance of youth participation, especially using digital tools, to tackle women and gender stereotypes.

These 4 directions have been chosen for multiple reasons: to explore gender identity through various lenses, to create an intercultural dialogue and a cross-sectorial perspective on women and gender stereotypes, and to benefit from a diverse experience of the partners and speakers.
According to the Global Gender Gap Report 2020, the World Economic Forum highlights the growing urgency for action, as, without the equal inclusion of everyone regardless of their gender, we will not be able to deliver on the promise of the Fourth Industrial Revolution for all of society, grow our economies for greater shared prosperity or achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. At the present rate of change, it will take nearly a century to achieve parity, a timeline we simply cannot accept in today’s globalized world, especially among younger generations who hold increasingly progressive views of gender equality.
We believe that intercultural dialogue is the core of effective cooperation, thus having these important discussions through #GenderIDTalks aims to raise awareness on the matter, bring new perspectives on the issues, strengthen international relationships and cooperation, allow brainstorming on solutions, and give a voice to youth’s concerns, expectations, and proposals.
All panels will be broadcasted live on ANKA’s Facebook Page,  GEYC’s Facebook page and PRISMA European Network’s Facebook page. You can learn more about ALF Virtual Marathon for Dialogue in EuroMed here
