Currently, the unemployment crisis is spreading throughout Europe, with figures for 2018 around 17,11 million unemployed. Young people are the first victims of the crisis in Europe. Indeed in 2018, 3,4 million of young Europeans under 25 (excluding students) did not have jobs in Europe. Across Europe, from Portugal to Eastern Europe, unemployment rates for the under-25s remain very high, especially for young people living in remote or “forgotten” places like rural areas, poor neighbourhoods or remote islands. Indeed, the european overseas department are not spared by this crisis, more specifically in Martinique, the NEETs (Not in Education, Employment or Training) rate is 51% among young people under 30.
The lack of prospects for young people leads to situations of exclusion and tension or even violence on the territory. Youth is often assimilated to these negative representations.
However, according to Youth workers, educational mobility and/or involvement are among the most efficient alternatives for strengthening the social cohesion and personal and professionnal development of young people, especially the most disadvantaged. Indeed, the benefits of mobility and youth involvement are no longer in question, as numerous studies and experiments carried out in France and Europe have demonstrated (see study “Erasmus + an asset for employability, a strength for companies” carried out by the Erasmus + French Agency). International mobility schemes are a real springboard for the acquisition of skills and the socio-professional integration of young people through non-formal education.
Thus the Training Course “The Youngsters’ Trail” was born in order to allow different organizations of Europe to develop their skills and knowledge in terms of tools and methods of accompanying young people to educational mobility, and to create a network of trusted, solid and sustainable organizations throughout Europe to enable the sending and hosting of volunteers within the framework of the European Solidarity Corps and other European and international volunteering programs.
The main idea of the training course comes from working experience and a need to synchronize and update understanding of qualitative Volunteering projects. Very often Volunteering projects reality differs from what is written in application and activity agreements due to cultural differences, different work styles, different preparation of volunteers, different tools and methods and lack of proper communication face-to-face on all stages of a project. Thus, this training course will help to recognize and overcome difficulties in planning, implementing and evaluating of “qualitative” Volunteering project. The Training Course will also explore the realities and challenges faced by young people in terms of obstacles, motivations and participation to mobility programs (through exchanges, discussions, round tables, visits to local organizations …), develop skills and common tools and methods of accompanying young people before, during and after volunteering programs, and create lasting partnerships that will allow the creation of a Network fostering the sending and hosting of volunteers throughout Europe. An important part of the Training Course will also focus on understanding the different aspects of the new volunteering program European Solidairty Corps.

The general objective of this Training Course is to develop the skills, tools and methods of the partners organisations and enable them to share their experiences in order to create a network of trusted, solid and sustainable organizations throughout Europe to enable the sending and hosting of volunteers that are young people with fewer opportunities facing different obstacles (Social / Economic / Educational / Cultural / Geographical / Health)
